It's incredible how far the Crash Bandicoot series has come on since the release of the first game way back in 1996. Crash Bandicoot Twinsanity is the second game to be released on the PlayStation 2, and the seventh game in the series. The game is once again not made by the original developers (Naughty Dog), but developed by a company called Traveller's Tales. This is perhaps why the series has not really moved on (in terms of ideas and uniqueness) since Crash Bandicoot 3. Despite this, the game is still excellent, and although there are no real 'new ideas', sometimes it can be said that it's better not to fix something that isn't broken, and this is clearly the case here.
The game focuses on stopping two evil twins (hence the name Crash Bandicoot Twinsanity), and there are no amazing plot twists or anything, but you wouldn't expect that from a Crash Bandicoot game as the story isn't really important. What is important are the levels, which are all completely new and exciting to play, and the main game mechanisms remain which have elevated the series to brand-name status.
Despite this, the game is far less linear than previous efforts, and you're presented with a much more open world to roam about in. You also have a new set of extra moves that you can do, so the game has a lot more depth than ever before. Despite these improvements the game never over-extends itself, and it stays true to its roots
One of the more bizarre changes that the developers made to the game was to give each of the characters five fingers instead of four. It was assumed that this was to make them more 'human like' and relatable, although 'The Simpsons' have never had this problem, and all of their characters have four fingers.
