Crash Bandicoot 1 was the breakthrough platforming video game from Naughty Dog way back in 1996. The game was released on the PlayStation 1, and was one of the PlayStation's first real great games. In addition to this, Crash Bandicoot 1 was the start of a brand which has now spawned 17 Crash Bandicoot games in total (although only about half have been on games consoles, as some have been released for mobile phones).

Crash Bandicoot is a rather odd character for a video game, and you join him in his wacky quest to stop Dr. Neo Cortex from world domination. One of the highlights about the game is the light-hearted style, and the way the game doesn't take itself too seriously. The graphics are also a blend between cartoon and realism, with a great, lively colour scheme. In the game you must work your way through the linear levels (often referred to as 'tube' levels, due to the shape of them). The game is a 3D platformer, where you must break as many crates as you can before reaching the end of the level to receive a special bonus.

On each level in Crash Bandicoot 1 there are 2 bonus items to collect; a Gem and a Crystal. The gem in always found in a secret or hard-to-reach part of the level, that is found by thinking outside the box and dense exploration. The gem is obtained by breaking every single crate on a level. This is often much harder than it first sounds, as you cannot usually go backwards if you miss one.

For fans of Crash Bandicoot 1, but who do not still have their old Playstation or indeed the game, you can now download it online on the PlayStation Network. Obviously there is a small charge of a few dollars, but you get to download the game directly onto your PS3's hard-drive and play it as much as you want.
