Thanksgiving is a great time of year and many friends and families gather to spend time with each other and to remember all the fun thing they have done over the past year and through their lives. Thanksgiving can really be a great time, and crafting for the holiday can also be fun and exciting for the whole family. Here are some ideas for you to make your Thanksgiving Day decorations fun and exciting.

Thanksgiving can really be a great time for the family to come together even before the cooking and preparation begin to spend time with each other and to create all the decorations and crafts that will be around the house for the season and holiday. Take some time to sit down as a family and to make some homemade crafts to have a great time together and to pass the preparation time for Thanksgiving together. Kids can get involved with making crafts and participating here and there for the whole event. There will be some things they won't be able to help with and others that you will want to buy or make on your own, but spending time with them can really be a lot of fun and make things go faster.

The Thanksgiving dinner table is one of the most important decorations for the day and you can get everyone involved. The centerpiece of the table is a focal point of the table and can present the theme of the décor and tie everything from the rest of the house together. This centerpiece can be a classic cornucopia that you make out of seasonal vegetables and gourds or can even be a small collection of leaves and twigs that you collect outside. You can even extend the theme and have photos or pictures of things you are thankful for in the center of the table and think of the great times you have had as a family. You can make a whimsical theme for the dinner table by having turkey napkin holders made from toilet paper rolls and construction paper. You can also make finger print turkey place cards with each guests name on them. Make these in advance or even make them as part of the pre-dinner activities that people can then take home with them as keepsakes. You can also create small pinecone turkeys by adding a pipe cleaner for the neck and head and feathers for the turkey tail in the pinecone. These crafts can all be very fun and exciting to make and can be part of the build up to the Thanksgiving Day holiday and feast you will be having with family and friends.

Decorating outdoors can also be fun for the whole family especially if you are going to need leaves and twigs for the decorations. Depending on how old the children are in your home, you can involve them to different degrees in the planning and creation process. Take them out on outing to collect leaves and branches that can be used to decorate the front of the house or to bring inside for the décor and crafts as well. This can really be fun to get out in nature to find all these things and to explore outdoors at the same time. Take photos of what is happening and have them printed so everyone can remember how much fun it was to create all the crafts. If you have a garden, then everyone can get involved with harvesting the pumpkins and gourds that will be used in the decorations as well. If you don't have access to a garden or didn't grow these types of things, then you can go to the local pumpkin patch and look for some on another outing.
