We all know by now that governments conduct auctions on a daily basis. Every year consumers save literally thousands of dollars because they are willing to spare that extra hour looking for the cheaply priced goods at government auctions.

They key, off course, is knowing where to look. Unfortunately most folks look in the wrong places - sad I know. If you put all your hopes in that extensively publicised federal auction happening next week, chances are that you will walk away empty handed and frustrated with the turn of events. Don't get me wrong off course. I think federal auctions offer good deals, but you need to attend many of them. This is because many folks now about them.

You can really start saving thousands if you attend a variety of auction events of different shapes and sizes. County sheriff auctions provide this exact opportunity.

Admittedly these auctions don't occur as often as many folks would like. On average most county departments will host about 4 to 6 different events throughout the course of the year. It takes the form usually of a live public outcry event. Sometimes county officials outsource the event to independent auctioneers. In some cases around the country the sheriff's department have started conducting county sheriff auctions online. The benefits of these are easy to list. It's way more accessible for the general public, better prices are fetched for the goods, etc.

So where do the department get the goods to sell? This is mostly sourced from the sheriff's office law enforcement activities. As goods, cars and other miscellaneous assets are confiscated from criminals, they are disposed off - after they have been released as part of the criminal investigation.

So if it's so easy, why's not everyone doing it? As a potential bidder you need to do a little bit of digging to find the actual auction. If you're not registered at a government auction website, you will need to put in some work to find what you're looking for. As most people are not willing to do this, the reward can however be well worth you're while. So get stuck in and start saving!
