Before correcting negative thinking patterns you need to understand why you think negatively. What you pay attention to determines what gets into your mind. What gets into your mind determines how you feel. Basically the way you see the world around you affect the way you think. You need to understand that we are always thinking, we are always noticing things. The things we notice can always be viewed accurately, positively or negatively.
For example if a strange smiles at you it can be viewed as:
Accurately - That is a nice person.
Positively - They fancy me.
Negatively - Why is that person laughing at me.
What happens with negative thinking is that you always see things in a negative light.
Now here is the key to correcting negative thinking, you need to understand things in their accurate light, rather than immediately thinking negatively, understand this point and your life will change. In other words if you see reality for what it is rather through the negative filter you have created, you will be able to correct those negative thoughts.
This brings me onto a very important point, a point that if you take on board it will help you more than you can imagine - Reality is a perception.
What does that really mean? Well the world and the way you see it will always be different from the world that someone else sees.
Let look at my case when I used to go to a party I always thought people were watching me and judging. That was my perception of reality and because I thought about it that way it was a reality to me, were in reality no one was judging me they were to involved in themselves and the party.
The key here is to understand that people have there own stuff going on. They are not bothered about you. Remember reality is a perception and if you perceive everything to be negative it will be.
