Taking care of those that take care of you is awful important. To me, too many times employees that make top management and companies shine are often overlooked and underappreciated. Companies tend to treat their front end employees like they get paid, not too well. When in all reality it is the front line workforce that interacts on a day-to-day basis with your paying customers. Why not reward your employees and treat them to a high class, rewarding, corporate retreat?
Many executives will tell you that it is too expensive and non productive to take employees on corporate retreats. Other companies believe that retreats should only be for top management and executives. By studying top companies to work for, year after year companies appear on these lists because all employees feel welcomed and appreciated. When employees feel this way they are excited to be a part of your organization and their productivity increases.
What should a corporate retreat include? Corporate retreats should be fun, relaxing, rewarding, and most important, productive. If you take your company on a retreat and forget to plan, then forget on being productive. Sure they should be relaxing and nearly pressure free. But, if you fail to use the retreats as teaching moments, much time and credibility will be lost.
Corporate retreat locations should have certain things. To make your retreat most effective you are going to want to have some form of meeting/trainings. Each corporate retreat location ought to have at least one conference room. It also needs access to all your business needs such as wireless internet, presentation capabilities, copy and fax center, and other essential functions. Don't get me wrong, you don't want to go on the retreat to simply carry out working functions as normal. But, you will always want the capabilities to be able to conduct business or meetings wherever you are. It can also be a great motivator to employees not on this corporate retreat. If you do some sort of teleconferencing with the home office, they can see what a great time is being had by all and become more motivated and driven to be at the next retreat.
Do not try and find a location that offers an activity or destination that meets every goers wants. If you waste time trying to find a location that meets everyone's demands, you will never get to your retreat. Part of being a successful employee and employer is being flexible and adaptable. Each retreat should be fun and motivating, but does not mean you cannot try new activities and adventures. Teach your team to become accepting of differences and willing to become adaptable and successful.
