The heart is a marvelous human organ. Blood supply to the heart is furnished from the two main arteries branching off of the aorta. The coronary arteries deliver oxygen rich blood to the heart. Without this blood the heart suffers and is not able to regenerate itself properly. In advanced age these arteries become narrowed , hardened and clogged. They become narrowed because of plaque, cholesterol, calcium. and age. When this occurs blood flow to the heart is stopped or curtailed.

The symptoms that result from this disease are chest pains and heart attacks. Preventive measures that can be taken are changes in diet, exercise and medicines that can be taken to reduce plaque. Chelation therapy is another treatment to reduce plaque in the arteries and veins. One type requires office visits to a doctor. The other form of chelation therapy can be initiated at home. These are pills or liquids that can be taken on a scheduled maintenance program. Aspirin is another medication that can reduce the odds of having a heart attack.

Another indicator of possible heart disease is hypertension. In this condition the heart pumps against a greater force with the resulting problem being an enlarged heart. Care should be taken to get high blood pressure down to a manageable level. Optimum conditions exist when calcium, plaque and cholesterol are reduced in the veins and arteries for greater blood flow and reduced tensions in these blood transporters.

Conditions that affect the heart are obesity, lack of exercise, poor diet, smoking, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Stress is another condition that needs to be avoided as much as possible in order to maintain correct heart health. Coronary heart disease is the leading killer of men and women in the United States. Heredity has been diagnosed as a primary factor leading to heart disease. Medical procedures that can be used are coronary bypass surgery. A procedure in which veins and arteries are taken from other parts of the body and connected as replacements to the damaged arteries of the heart. Another medical procedure involves the opening of the blocked arteries. The electrocardiogram is one tool used to detect heart disease. Many new medical procedures and treatments are coming into vogue in order to treat one of the most life threatening diseases known to americans.
