Converting Traffic Into Dollars - Part 4

Expert Author John Derossett

In this last segment of converting visitors in dollars we take a look at whether or not you make it easy for your customers to place an order from your site. If you don't already know, then you should be told now that more than 60 percent of those shopping on your site will abandon their cart without following through. For this reason, you need to make sure that the ordering process is as simple as possible.

These are the most important things to consider:

  • There should be a clearly visible link from the home page and all of your product and service pages to your ordering page or shopping cart.
  • Name these links so that customers know exactly what they are. Use names such as order, buy, shopping cart or something to that effect.
  • Don't hide your prices. If they don't know the cost of something they will abandon the site.
  • Make sure that your customers know what shipping charges there will be and sales taxes that may have to be paid.
  • Make sure they know the full and final price before you ask them for their credit card information
  • Make sure they know your company name, how the charge will appear on their statement and be sure that your complete mailing address is available to them.
  • In all cases, where possible offer a full money back guarantee. This helps to build trust.
  • Make sure your refund policy is clearly stated on the website.
  • Make sure there is a secure connection using SSL on your site whenever you are taking financial information from anyone. People are savvy these days and if they see your asking for credit card information onsite with no secure connection they will leave.
  • Make sure that your site is easy to navigate overall. Have people that you know go to the site and connect with everything to make sure it is easy to understand.
  • Test your website on a regular basis to make sure everything is working properly.
  • Make sure there is some sort of a way to let you know if you server goes down.
  • Clearly state on your website whether or not you will ship products if applicable to foreign countries.

Following these few simple steps will go a long way to making your customers more comfortable in doing business with you.
