Most of us use tile of some sort in our house today and if we are decorating a kitchen, bathroom or even an outdoor patio, we will no doubt be looking for a floor tile to bring the whole place together. Its surprising therefore that most of us know so little about different types of tiles and the advantages of using the various materials available to their best advantage.

Travertine tile is a case in point. Very few people seem to have heard of this natural material and yet most people how see it in use are amazed at its beauty and also the very reasonable price it is available at.

So where does this very individual substance come from and how was it formed? Who mines it from the ground and who long did it take the earth to produce? While the answers to these questions may be extremely interesting to many they are in fact useless to the interior decorator. All we care about is the fact that they look fantastic and cost a pittance when compared to the equally wonderful marble tile.

Yes, travertine tiles are a godsend to those of us that want a look of expensive style in our home with having to spend a fortune.

The only down side to travertine is the fact that it does take some looking after. This means both when transporting it to the place it is to be laid due to the fact that is easily cracked, and also once laid due ot the fact it can stain when coming into contact with acids.

If you can put up with these minor negative points then you will be overjoyed by the results when you lay travertine tile in your home.
