To begin, unhealthy weight gain can have serious negative implications on a person's body image and self esteem. When body image and self esteem drop, a person can slip into depression. Coronary heart disease, blood clots, and heart attacks are the overarching consequence to why people should monitor their weight. As previously stated, weight gain makes the heart work harder than it should. Prolonged stress on the heart will cause this vital organ to be overworked and lead to heart attacks. Heart disease will ultimately lead to the need for a heart transplant which may not come in time if a donor is not found.

Consequences of excess weight gain are depression, hypertension, high blood pressure, type II diabetes, heart attacks, and eventually death.
