Confused About Promoting Yourself Online? The Top Online Promotion Questions Answered

Expert Author Thom Lancaster

There comes a point in every internet marketers life (or every potential internet marketers life) when you need to think about how best to promote yourself. As an internet marketer, you are a valuable brand. People buy your products because they like and respect you. It's important that you do everything you can to make sure that that trust is justified. So, how do you make sure that you are promoting yourself in the right manner? I've prepared answers to three of the most common questions which I'm ready to share with you in this article.

Question 1: Do I need my own website?

The answer to this is completely unambiguous. You definitely need your own website and has to be a website that represents your brand. Generally, this should be your own name. Now, there will be times that this is unavailable, in which case you might want to add an extra word to the name, use a middle initial, or alternatively come up with a company name. Once you have done that, make sure this site is kept to up to date with information about yourself and your products and that you market everything under this name.

Question 2: What are some good sites to promote myself on?

You really need to be setting up a lot of different profiles to promote yourself on. This is where you get your name around. This also helps you to claim a lot of search results under your name, rather than rising allowing anyone with a similar sounding name to grab these. Some examples of profiles you need include Twitter, Facebook and all the forums in your niche. Another good idea is to create an account at an article distributor and to release articles under your name. This also allows you to demonstrate your expertise through these articles.

Question 3: Does online promotion have to be sales driven?

My preferred answer to that is no. I think that most marketing should be subtle. Concentrate on providing accurate and usable information rather than selling. You can subtly mention names of your products, or you can provide readers with links to them. But, don't go for the hard sell. That is out of fashion on the internet right now. The exception is for your actual sales pages, when more sell is clearly justified.

I hope this article clears up some of the viable promotional techniques which you need to follow to protect yourself and your brand on the internet. Make sure that you have a website and a number of accounts at different online services. Market yourself subtly. That will help you to grow and protect your brand make money based on your online expertise.
