Confessions of a Sports Betting Loser

Expert Author Sam Oconnel

I have loved betting on sports for a long time. For a lot of that time it was an expense. Experience can be a great teacher if you let it. It took a while for me to realize that I didn't need to learn how to win, as much as I needed to learn how not to lose.

I used to spend hours looking at stats and handicapping games. Each game was a new project. I had no system really, it was just what I thought was best after processing the stats. Which turned out to be no more accurate than my best guess before spending all that time. Because I had no system I had no idea what to do to improve my betting.

I think I was also the worlds dumbest money manager. I would bet small on some games, and big on others. Sometimes I would try to win more by betting parlays and other trick bets. Every bet was placed from a single bankroll so I never really knew what was working and what was losing me money.

Then I came across the John Morrison betting system scam. I figured 97% beat the hell out of 48%. Fortunately, a Google search turned up the systems so I could see them without having to fork out $200 bucks I didn't have. Progressive betting...but I figured it was worth it if I would almost never lose. I think you may know the outcome, may my bankroll rest in peace.

The road to winning has been long and hard. At some points downright costly. To turn things around, I knew I had to get smart and organized. The alternative was to quit betting because I couldn't really afford to lose any more.

Before you can win, you have to learn to stop doing the things that are making you lose. Once you can stop doing the wrong things, the right things will naturally happen.
