Concepts Of Conditioning The Canine Athlete

The workout is the key to activating the growth process, and the ability for the dog to recover is what helps to accelerate and maintain their growth. To put it in simple terms, the dog's body needs time to react to the workout and to transport the vital nutrients offered through NUTRITION and SUPPLEMENTATION along with a very good workout program.

I provide all my dogs with an accelerated recovery program.

Example:
My German shepherds work schedule would look something like this:

- Two days of cardiovascular endurance work followed by a full day of rest

- Two days back on, with the weekends off.

With the right conditioning program, and knowing when your dog has reached his/hers maximum stress levels, the rest period becomes so much more important than the actual workouts themselves.

The definition of anabolic, simply put, is the bodies ability to build muscle, and catabolic is muscle breakdown, no secrets here. By staying focused and in tune with your dogs program, watching for signs of breakdown both MENTAL AND PHYSICAL, and focusing on proper recovery with the right nutrition program, most working dogs will improve greatly week to week. The most important part of the recovery is eating the right foods, being conditioned for his/her sport-needs, rest, relaxation and sleep.

My ideas are "you are what you eat", and I feel that food makes up for at least 80% of the energy and muscle stamina in the canines workout. My own research has led me to discover that there is a two hour window after your workout is complete to properly feed your canine athlete correctly, and if you take advantage of that window of opportunity the muscle growth and muscle endurance will be accelerated greatly. I have found that after a hard workout your dogs body is like a sponge, ready to absorb all the proper nutrients he/she needs. It is up to us as dogs handlers, to provide that proper nutrition, because at this time the nitrogen levels in the dog are quite high, and they must be buffered for growth to occur, and the only way to do this is through proper nutrition and rest.

I have been working, training and conditioning dogs for over 15 years. I feel your home is the center of your dogs life, and to me the best place to train your dog, since I will work with you and your dog in their own environment. I feel they will learn faster and I will be able to recognize most problems which we can handle right on the spot. All of my programs are tailored to you and your dog.
