Those who wear contact lenses will appreciate how they provide clear vision. Just like eyeglasses, it's another way of treating common eye conditions like short-sightedness, far-sightedness and even astigmatism.

Regular lenses are usually clear and transparent and they come in a variety of brands, types and even added features. Typically, they are corrective in nature and prescribed for people who need vision correction.

If, on the other hand, you don't need any eye correction but still would like the option of using colored contacts, there are what is known as non prescription color contact lenses.

They're essentially cosmetic contact lenses that are available with zero corrective powers. Non prescription colored contacts are extremely popular because you can enhance or alter the color of your eyes as a fashion statement. The main purpose for using color lenses is for aesthetic and not corrective reasons.

There are two types of colored contacts, opaque and enhancement. Opaque color contacts totally change the color of your eyes, whether you have light-colored or dark-colored eyes. Enhancement color contacts only highlight, not change, the color of your eyes. These lenses are ideal for those who want only a subtle yet positive change in their appearance.

In general, "non prescription" means that a lens prescription is not necessary. However, whether you're wearing contacts for corrective or cosmetic reason, it's advised that you get an active prescription from a professional eye doctor before buying and using color contacts without prescription. There is a good reason for this.

Contact lenses, even the non-prescription ones, are not "one-size-fits all" types. As the curve and shape of the eyes differs from one person to another, it's necessary to go to an eye exam and get the advise on the right pair of lenses that suit you best.

It's been warned that long exposure to the 'wrong' type of ill-fitting color lenses could lead to some serious eye problems. Remember you only have a pair of eyes. Don't risk them for the sake of beauty.

Many contact lens manufacturers carry non prescription colored contacts among their list of products. In fact, you can avail free colored contact lenses and sample various brands of lenses without spending a penny.
