Collecting Model Trains And Baseball Cards - Exciting Hobbies

Expert Author Tom Billmore

Many people have hobbies like collecting sports cards or stamps or coins. Some even collect insects. This article explains how I started collecting model trains and why I took to collecting baseball cards as well.

Pursuing a hobby can be very relaxing and at the same time lets you discover your creative side. Different people have varied interests. While stamp collecting may appeal to some, others may be interested in following a sport and still others may be interested in the arts and crafts. For me, being a baseball fan, it couldn't have been anything other than collecting baseball cards. I also had another unusual hobby. That was collecting model trains.

As a young child, I was always fascinated by the chugging of the train and would often pester my father to take me to the railway station just to get a glimpse of those huge coaches. It was at the age of six that my family gifted me my first train model. Although it was really tiny when compared to the real version, I was thrilled to bits. From then on I took to collecting model trains and haven't stopped since. Baseball was something I developed an interest in much later in life. I started collecting baseball cards just for the fun element which later became a serious hobby.

Although not connected to one another, collecting model trains kept the child in me alive while collecting baseball cards brought out the investor in me. Collecting model trains brought me more joy than anything else. Model trains don't come cheap but you do find some models for less than a hundred dollars. But if something is very close to your heart, then you wouldn't mind spending a few extra bucks to acquire it. My baseball card collection is more of the vintage cards. Being rare in nature, they also fetch higher monetary value. Although very few original cards are still in circulation, the so called old cards that you find today are all imitations of the original. The high demand for these cards has actually urged their prices to go up.

Being a member of a couple of train societies has given me the privilege to come across different train models and books and helped me improve my train layouts and landscapes and I have created quite a fancy world by collecting model trains. My baseball collection includes some really rare ones but collecting baseball cards brought out in 1952 is what I'm looking at.

collecting baseball cards has always been pursued by many. However, off late, a lot of people I know have taken to collecting model trains as well.

Having a hobby is said to help in the overall development of children so if you child has taken to collecting baseball cards [http://collectiblefun.net/] or collecting model trains, encourage him or her to do so. It will keep them occupied and out of trouble.
