Cold Calling the Right Way

The dream of any entrepreneur is to have a steady stream of customers constantly calling in, inquiring about their products and services. This isn't a perfect world, however, and there comes a time when you're going to have to go out and find your customers, and one of the ways to do this is with cold calling. Many people have a negative impression of cold calling, but the fact is that it's not as bad as it's made out to be and there are some cold calling techniques that can be implemented to make the process easier and far more effective.

First, have your final goal in mind. The trick about cold calling is getting the opportunity to make the sale, it's the chance to make an appointment, not make the final sale. Research is very important and it's often overlooked. You need to make sure that the right prospect is being reached with your call and that they are looking for what you're selling. Finally, know what you're going to say when the prospect answers the phone. This will help set the tone for the rest of the call and make you sound informative and prepared.

When it comes to cold calling techniques, there are some mistakes to watch out for that could prevent you from building your business. One of the biggest mistakes is not sticking to a schedule, you should always commit to making a certain number of calls each week. The more people you get in contact with, the more potential customers you have. Calling potential customers at the wrong time of the day can definitely work against you. As the day wears on people become more tired, so try to catch them early in the day. And finally, not being friendly to whoever answers the phone can potentially end any sales chance you might have had. You never know who will be answering the phone!

Cold calling is something that every salesperson has had to do at some point in their career, and while it may not be the most exciting aspect, it does work. By following the cold calling techniques listed above, you will gain the confidence you need to pick up the phone and make the call. The fact is, you can be yourself when making cold calls, use a call script and then add your own embellishments. By overcoming the fear of making cold calls, you can see a noticeable improvement in your profits and an increase in your customer base.
