There are many different myths out there regarding acne treatment, and many people fall victim to these myths without doing further research of their own, so it's important that you can separate fact from fiction when going about treating your condition. This article will go over some of the most popular myths when it comes to acne treatment and tell you what you can do to start clearing up your skin now.
One major misconception is that acne is mostly caused by poor hygiene. While this can be true in some cases, overall it is not. The truth is that acne is mainly caused by a hormonal imbalance in the body, leading to the over-production and secretion of oils that get into the thousand of tiny pores in the skin, clogging them up and causing acne breakouts to occur. This is why keeping your face and the rest of your body clean and oil-free is so important, however the skin can become too dry which is also a concern.
Another common myth is that squeezing pimples is the best way to get rid of them. This could not be farther from the truth, and in fact by squeezing your pimples and popping them, you are opening them up to infection, which can actually cause them to become worse and more difficult to treat. The best thing you can do when it comes to treating your pimples and zits is to apply a facial scrub or some other topical skin care product till they go away. Many people become impatient and try to pop them, which is not what you want to do.
One popular myth is that chocolate or other foods cause acne to appear on the skin. While there on some foods out there, such as milk and some sea foods, that can worsen acne, there is no food that can cause it to appear in the first place. The best thing you can do is drink as much water as possible and maintain a healthy balance diet and you won't have any problems.
