Clean Energy - US Vs China

Expert Author Ned Hall

Global clean energy race is on, and at this point everything looks to be going in China's favor. China is already world's largest manufacturer of solar panels, and wind turbines, and there are more than one million Chinese finding well paid jobs in clean energy sector. In the meantime good old Uncle Sam still discusses what needs to be done, and this delay means that US is with each new day more behind China in clean energy race.

US has long tradition of using fossil fuels, and this long tradition has created powerful fossil fuel lobbies that want to keep political power in their hands. China, on the other hand only recently become economic giant so Chinese do not have this heavy burden of fossil fuel tradition to deal with.

The current situation is something like this: What ever US does China does a bit more, and so the gap between them becomes even bigger. Even domestic renewable energy companies are more interested to expand to China rather than wait the adequate conditions within their own borders.

Domestic renewable energy industry is miles away from being able to compete with China's clean energy industry, and this scenario looks likely to continue in years to come. US still lacks national renewable energy policy, and this is one big hurdle that US will need to overcome as quickly as possible.

China's lead at this moment is massive but this doesn't mean that US is totally out of the game. In basketball terms US is currently trailing by 20 points after three quarters. Some will have to step in and make few shots in the row to make it a tight game.
