Classic Games Your Child Will Love

Expert Author Joy C. Harrison

Children love to play games. In fact, many of today's games have been focused on video game consoles and computers. However, it's important to have a balance of video games and just plain fun and games away from the electronics. There are many classic games that the whole family can play that your child will enjoy. Here are a few examples:

1. Tag - While this sounds very boring, tag is one of the oldest games for kids. It provides a lot of exercise since they are running around, and there are several variations. Playing general tag involves someone to be "it" and they have to chase the other players. If the "it" child tags another player, that player then becomes "it". Freeze tag is another variation where the "it" person tags another player and that player has to freeze. Another player can come by and crawl between the "frozen" player's legs to unfreeze them and continue with the game. In that example, kids can take turns being "it".

2. Duck, duck goose - All players sit in a circle. The "it" person walks around the outside of the circle, patting each player on the head and saying "duck" each time they pass a player. When the "it" child chooses who is "goose" the "goosed" child has to stand up and chase the "it" person all around the circle before the "it" person sits back down in the spot of the "goose". Then the "Goose" becomes "it" and the game starts again.

3. Musical chairs - set up chairs in the room, leaving one less chair then there are players. Have one person control the music and once the music starts, the children walk around the circle of chairs. When the music stops the children have to race to find a seat in the circle of chairs. There will be one child without a chair, so they are out and another chair is removed. The game continues on like this until there are 2 children and one chair. When the music stops at this point, the person who managed to make it to the chair first wins.
