Classic Children's Toys

Ah the joy and the magic of even the thought of classic children's toys. My mind flashes thinking of the bright colors and the boxes of opportunities that would lay in front of me as a children. I still feel that twinge of excitement as I think about all of the special pieces of fun and joy.

The first thing that comes to mind is the bright package of crayons. I even liked they way that they smelled. Just to have a package of them close to me was so special. Then there was the little red wagon. It was normally full of other children's classics. I would have had to dump them all so that I could give the dog a ride.

Sorting through those dumped toys, I see a tall can of tinker toys, a metal chess and checkers board that clasped together to hold the ones I had not yet lost. There are Lego's everywhere. Some of them clipped together from previous opportunistic play sessions. They still entrance me. I see all of these bright colors and I want to lay them on my desk as I work.

Then there were Barbie dolls. I had a few of them. Mother would write my name on the feet of my those in the event that some of my play buddies might abscond with them. Each of us kept our "Families" in those pink, plastic Barbie cases. And to carry that case from one child's house to another meant that you were busy. You had business to attend to. You were not simply wandering around as though you were lost!

Puzzles, cards and board games fall in to this category as well. It was a busy Friday night when everyone gathered around to steal each others, buy up their properties, etc.
