In this fast-paced, demanding world, it is easy to get caught up in work, the ministry or others needs. When this happens a void is left at home--in the family. All too often we relegate the emotional needs of our family to a spouse, babysitter or other family members. These types of choices are made out of "necessity", because of time management issues, or so it seems. In truth, the end result is usually manifested through feelings of abandonment, loneliness and anger. When a teenager begins to lash out at the parent or a partner considers separation, it may be time for Christian family counseling.
To overcome problems, find balance, and restore joy and happiness in the lives of people, it is important to treat the whole person. That entails dealing with the body, mind and spirit. Whatever the situation, whether marital, child-parent relationship issues or loss, meeting together with an impartial person can offer encouragement and solutions. Getting to the heart of the matter by delving into the past can resolve the present issues at hand. Biblical counseling is based on a specific set of principles. These principles are common to both the counselee and counselor.
Advice and counsel are derived from ancient wisdom and fundamental scriptural truths. Through this practical guidance, communication techniques and other structured accountability exercises are formulated. Regularly scheduled meetings are necessary to measure progress. Moving through the process of restoration is work in and of itself. As such, a commitment to the process of working through the issues is vital.
Finding someone you can trust, as a counselor, is very important to the process. Apart from the commitment; action and change are required to heal broken relationships. Change will happen when all the ingredients agree, trust being key. Trust is built on reliance and faith in a person. A gage to a counselor's success and sincerity can include credentialing, familiarity either personally, or from a referral and professionalism.
Customarily, traditional insurance policies are hesitant to cover Christian family counseling. However, if the counselor is licensed, and the appropriate forms are completed and filed most claims are processed for payment.
