Choosing the Right Siding Material For a House

When building or remodeling a house, one of the biggest choices people have to make when it comes to the exterior of the house is the material that is going to be used for the siding. This is extremely critical for a lot of different reasons. Each material will look differently, some will last for a longer or shorter period of time, and certain materials require more maintenance. This article will focus on the pros and cons of three different materials, aluminum, wood, and vinyl, that people can use to side their house.

There are many great advantages to using aluminum siding. For one, it requires very little maintenance. It really doesn't take a lot of work to keep it clean, and it hardly ever needs to be repaired. It can come in a lot of different colors and designs. It's also really easy to put together. However, one downfall to aluminum is that it can dent or bend easily. All it takes is a baseball, football, or even hail to put a lot of dents into aluminum. As far as price goes, it's not much more expensive or inexpensive than using vinyl.

One of the greatest things about wood siding is that it has a lot of character. No two pieces of wood are exactly the same, so the design one gets when using wood is beautiful and also very unique. However, the biggest downfall to using wood is that it takes a lot of work in order to keep it maintained. Wood constantly needs to be painted over and over again. It needs to be frequently caulked. Many insects are attracted to wood, and keeping them under control is a lot of work as well. Also, wood tends to cost a lot more than aluminum or vinyl.

Probably one of the best materials people can use to side their house is vinyl. Vinyl siding offers a great look without the high cost of other materials. It can come in many different colors, and there are also a few different designs to choose from. It's very easy to install. Vinyl requires very little maintenance, and it lasts a really long time. The only downfall to using vinyl is that sometimes, when it's really cold and something hits it, it can crack. However, this is a very rare occasion. I hope this article has been beneficial to those looking for the right material to side their house with.
