Chinese "Shanzai" Movies and Stars

Shanzhai products are not the only existing form of Shanzhai culture, there are also Shanzhai stars. Those who are fond of entertaining others re-explored the value of people with faces similar to those of popular stars. They enter into the business field, or even form a perfect pair with Shanzhai material products.

Recently an advertisement made by the Shanzhai version of Jay Chou gained wide attention and was transmitted by a huge number of natives. In this advertisement, this guy looks fairly like the authentic Jay Chou, no matter in appearance, or in the tone of voice. It's so funny and embarrassed me to "ORZ" (A body language used in Internet. It means something so shocking that makes a person fall upon his knees.) Since then, I began to pay attention to Shanzhai culture on Internet, and startling found that Shanzhai culture has its influence in every corner of our life. Almost nothing can avoid being simulated.

The most interesting ones are the Shanzhai movies. Some famous movies or serious new have been reinvented with kuso; and the original director were always angry but helplessly with it. I remembered that a movie "The Promise", directed by Chinese director Cheng Kaige, was once simulated by a person named HuGe. This simulated movie called "A Murder Case Caused by Steamed Bread" had attracted wide attention among the Chinese audience and had become a hotly discussed issue.

The director Cheng Kaige accused HuGe of the infringement on the copyright of his movie, while HuGe contesting that it was purely just an entertainment, not harbor with any intention. This lawsuit had lasted for a quite long period and did reveal some problems of the movie itself. Firstly, the theme of the movie had severely been questioned. A large number of the audience felt the movie was quite like a tall story with no value. A good movie is designed to impress the audience by the meanings conveyed, and not be complained by a majority of the audience. Secondly, the sites where the movie was shot were severely damaged when the movie was directed here.
