Children's Sermons - An Idea to Enhance Your Bible Lessons

Children's liturgy is a time for children's sermons and lessons for Sunday school. It can be difficult finding ways to make your Bible lessons more exciting. Following is a fantastic Sunday school idea to spice up your class.

Bible Lesson on Sin

This lesson incorporates an object so that your children's sermon will have more clarity. The object that will be focused on during this activity is a chalkboard.

Write a word on the chalkboard, but misspell it (make sure it's a misspelling that the kids will notice). You can even write a whole sentence with just one misspelled word. Start talking about a different subject and give your children's liturgy students time to notice the misspelling.

When the first child points it out, act as though you don't know what he or she is referring to. Now gently argue with the student and insist that it's the correct spelling. Go so far as to have another student look the word up in the dictionary. Once it is confirmed that you spelled the word incorrectly, tell the class that you're going to just keep on spelling it the way you want to. Give the kids some time to argue their point.

Now agree that it is spelled wrong, and hold up a blank piece of paper over the misspelled word. Ask them if that takes care of the error, and allow them once again to argue their point.

Ask your class what you can do to take care of the spelling mistake. Several of them will surely reply that you should erase the word and rewrite it correctly.

The Point of the Chalkboard Sunday School Activity

Explain that the way you dealt with the misspelled word is the way that many people deal with sin. You may want to write this down on the chalkboard:

*First, we pretend that we don't see the sin.
*Next, we argue that it's correct.
*Third, we decide we're going to do it our way.
*Finally, we agree that the sin is wrong, so we try to cover it up.

Emphasize during this children's sermon that God wants to help us erase our sins and mistakes. However, we must see that it is wrong and turn away from it to make it right. Finally, we must ask God to forgive our sin and wash it away (or erase it). Read 1 John 1:9 to the class to wrap up the lesson for Sunday school.
