When you think of childproofing your home, baby bath safety is not the first thing that comes to mind. Most parents do not consider baby bath safety because usually when a child is taking a bath, they are under the direct supervision of an adult. However, supervision does not always prevent accidents from happening.

Anyone who has children knows and can tell you that children are totally unpredictable and prone to accidents with or without supervision. This is why there are certain precautions that should be taken for bathtime safety.

For starters, if there are small children in the house, the temperature on your water heater should be kept no higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This will prevent the child from being burned or scalded resulting in serious injury and even death. In addition to lowering the temperature on your water heater, you can purchase hot water safety toys that will change color if they reach an unsafe temperature. These toys are inexpensive and serve a great purpose.

Another common hazard posed in baby bath safety is the mere presence of the faucet. Many children have had severe injuries from bumping into faucets. To protect your child from this hazard, you can purchase what are referred to as faucet friends. These are soft coverings that will go over the faucet and handles to prevent the baby from bumping their face on the hard metal.

And last but not least of the baby bath safety tips is always use mild soap. It is very important to use shampoo or wash that is specifically designed for babies. This will assure that your child is not exposed to harmful toxic chemicals.
