Cheap Business Insurance - The Myth

You are in business. You need insurance. You want to keep your costs as low as possible. You are on the look out for cheap business insurance.

There is only one real way to get cheap business insurance and that is to skimp on the coverage. Insurance companies, like all companies, need to make a profit. So, if you pay less for insurance, you are more than likely going to get less coverage.

There is a trade-off when it comes to coverage. Insure less and lower your premiums, or insure more and raise your premiums.

One way to insure less is not to cover everything that needs coverage. That means when a claim event occurs, you will find that your policy does not cover the event at all, or perhaps it is a covered event, but certain items are not covered, or you get minimal, if not extremely minimal coverage for the claim.

Another way to try to get cheap business insurance is to understand your coverage needs exactly. Then decide what you want to insure, and what you can cover on your own, or self insure. To self insure, you set aside a enough money to pay to replace what ever it is when the need arises.

The other facet of self insurance is leveraging the deductibles on your policy. This is known as co-insurance. You agree with the insurance company to pay a certain amount of the claim, and the company will cover the rest. The more you are willing to cover, the higher the deductible. The higher the deductible, lower the premium.

It is always important to completely understand your insurance needs. You can short change yourself with cheap business insurance by avoiding coverage that you need. The other way is to acknowledge the coverage you need and to determine where, and how, you can self-insure.
