Cellulite is Really Just Fat

Many women combat the task of attempting to cover up cellullite that may be on their buttocks, hips or thighs.

What exactly is cellulite? And where did it come from? Cellulite is bodyfat. According to Researchers at the Mayo Clinic, cellulite, is not just ordinary fat. It is made up of fat cells that reside within the skin. Cellulite is formed by fibrous connective cords that connect the skin to underlying muscle. The cords tether the skin to deeper structure, with the fat lying in between. As fat cells accumulate, they push up against the skin, while long tough cords are pulling down. this creates an uneven surface, or the dimpling effect.

Many doctors consider cellulite normal among women. 8 out of 10 women have some degree of cellulite. It is not a serious medical condition, and does not neccesarily have to be treated. A women's body carry a large percentage of bodyfat natually in the hips, thighs, buttocks and breast. For this reason, most men do not have to deal with this issue.

Your cellulite, may not be all of your fault. Some contributing factors to having cellulite, are beyond your control.

Cellulite may increase with age. Your skin will lose some of it's elasticity. Hormonal contraceptives, have been linked to increased amounts of this type of fat. Studies point to the fact that our genes may also play a role in this condition. If the females in your family have cellulite, then your chances may increase as well. But, there are other factors, that we do control. Like smoking, stress, pregnancy, obesity, and lack of exercise.

So, what are some things that we can do to help rid ourselves of this nagging problem? There are tons of cremes, supplements, and treatments that claim to solve the problem. Some are very expensive. Unfortunately, there is no pill to take. There are a few things that we can do to help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Since it is a form of fat, exercise is always a remedy we can use to reduce body fat. We can also eat a more balanced diet that includes fiber, eggs, soy, fruits like oranges and pomegrantes, flaxseed, and raw nuts.
