All Souls' Day is also called as the Feast of All Souls, Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed and Day of the Dead.
Celebrating All Souls' Day on the 2nd of November, the day after All Saints' Day, has been a tradition for most of the people. A tradition that has been practiced and preserved for many years or generations. There are maybe some differences in terms of believes, cultures and religions, but one thing is common for sure, that is to honor the memory of the departed.
Commemorating the lives and works of our beloved ones is one thing that we can possibly offer to them. Praying for their souls to be saved and asking Our Lord for the forgiveness of their sins are important to find salvation and God's gift of Eternal Life.
Feeding of the dead is also a tradition for some cultures. Some people leave a meal and fruits for their loved ones who have died, for their souls will come down to feast on it.
There are also some festivals for the dead, but the most popular tradition is the Holloween, which is the annual holiday celebration in some countries like United States, South America, Europe and Japan, every 31st of October.
According to online wikipedia, "the term Halloween (also spelled Hallowe'en) is shortened from All Hallows' Even - e'en is a shortening of even, which is the origin of the words evening and eve. It is now known as "Eve of" All Saints' Day, which is November 1st".
Children are also thrilled about Halloween activities and games such as trick-or-treating, wearing halloween costumes, attending costumes parties, carving Jack-o'-lanterns (pumpkin that represents Halloween), visiting haunted attractions, apple bobbing (also known as dunking), listening and telling scary stories and watching horror movies.
Happy Halloween!
