Catching Fish in the Fall - 3 Fishing Tips to Help You Catch More Fish This Fall

For me, the fall has always been the best and most productive time of the year for fishing. I prefer fishing in rivers while wading and the cooler weather, beautiful scenery, and less crowded rivers make the fall my favorite time of the year for catching fish. Oh, and the fishing is pretty darn good in the fall as well.

In this article I will outline 3 fishing tips to help you catch more fish this fall. These tips have worked for me for more than 25 year and I know they will do the same for you. Catching fish can sometimes be a challenge, but these simple tips will help you become a much more successful angler. While other people are concerned with football, hunting, and the holidays you need to take advantage of this wonderful time of the year and go fishing.

Most of these tips are for river fishing, and more specifically river fishing while wading, although these tips also apply to other forms of fall fishing.

  1. Fish At The Best Times - With the shorter and cooler days in the fall you want to maximize your fishing time as much as possible. This means that you want to be fishing at the best times. 'Fishing at the best times simply means being on the water when the fish are the most active. In the fall this normally means when the sun has had a chance to warm the water a bit. Another thing that you should do is pay attention to the weather & moon and plan you fishing excursions accordingly. These two forces of Mother Nature have an amazing impact on the feeding behavior of fish.
  2. Use Live Bait - In the fall it seems as if many species of fish are 'stocking up' on food before the dog days of winter set in. This means that live bait is very effective in the fall of the year. My personal favorite type of live bait is the good old worm. Not only are worms readily available, they are also quite easy to fish with on a river with the help of a bait bag. When using live worms as bait, one of the best fishing tips you'll ever get is to use gang hooks. A live worm rigged on a set of gang hooks and allowed to flow naturally with the current of a river is an extremely effective fall trout fishing technique. Fish find live bait hard to resist in the fall of the year.
  3. Have Fishing Gloves - In the fall the weather can change quickly and nothing will ruin a perfectly good fishing trip like cold hands. This is why having a nice pair of fingerless fishing gloves in your fishing vest is a great idea. Then if you need them, you have them. My fingerless gloves have saved fishing trips many times by keeping my hands warm when the weather turns cold.

If you want to catch more fish this fall, these 3 fishing tips will help. As I said before, these tips have served me well for many years and I know they will do the same for you.
