Cat aggression is indeed a very serious issue if you are a cat owner. And because there are several different types of cat aggression you have to determine which type of aggression your cat shows. You also have to determine under what circumstances your cat is aggressive. Is it an aggression towards you? Is it an aggression towards other members of your family or is it an aggression towards stangers?

If you notice that your cat is behaving strangely or aggressively then the best thing you can do is to pay a visit to a professional behaviorist. The behaviorist will perform certain physical tests (e.g. blood tests) and then will try to determine the type of aggression your cat displays.

To correct your cat's aggressive behavior you might need to make changes to the pets environment or even try certain drug therapies as part of the treatment.

I will now try to explain the most significant types of cat aggression

1. Fear Cat Aggression This type of cat aggression may appear in cases where your cat is exposed to unfamiliar people or places. Most cats will retreat when feared but some may want to fight! Especially if they are on their own territory. Now if the cat is harmed in any way during such an encounter this could cause serious problems in the future. Cats do not forget easily. The best way to deal with feared cats is to approach them in a friendly and calm manner.

Another reason that will trigger your cat's fears is punishment. Be especially carefull when trying to train your cat. They are really sensitive.

2. Territorial Cat Aggression This type of cat aggression is usually shown towards people or other animals that approach the cat's territory.

3. Predatory Cat Aggression Cats like other mammals have the desire to chase and hunt their preys. This behavior may sometimes be directed at people or other pets. This is a very dangerous type of cat aggression and must be treated as soon as possible. The younger the cat the better to try to prevent Predatory Cat Aggression from developing.

4. Social Cat Aggression Cats are very sociable pets. Researchers have tried to discover the social structure and relationships between cats. Social structures may lead to aggressive behaviors or actions. Your cat may display such a behavior in order to take control of a situation, for example when your cat is challenged by another cat or even by a person. A way to deal with Social Cat Aggression is to take control of all rewards. Teach your cat that an obedient behavior is the way to get the reward. Cats are very smart pets and will instantly realise the rules of the game.

These are some of the Cat Aggression Types and the most significant ones. There other types of Cat Aggression. Aggression can arise at any age. The most importand causes of all types of cat aggression are:
