Superstitions have been part of gambling since a very long time. Gamblers from all over the world believe in some form of superstition and in most cases they also share the same set of beliefs. However, there are some countries such as China which has a different set of superstitions. These superstitions or beliefs determine the things which are considered lucky and those which are considered unlucky.

While there are some groups of gamblers such as Chinese gamblers who have adopted their own set of superstitions, there are also a common set of superstitions that many gamblers share. Common Superstitions

Some of the common superstitions that many gamblers share include:

- The black color, a magpie, dog around the gambling table or breaking a mirror is considered omens of bad luck.
- You will have good luck if you have with a four leaf clover, a lucky item of clothing, a horseshoe or a rabbit's foot. You may also have good luck if you blow on the dice before rolling, keep your fingers cross and keep your chips stacked neatly on the table.
- You will have good luck if you have a pretty woman standing behind your chair or you use your index finger to touch your favorite card.
- Playing game on a polished surface or lending money to an opponent will bring bad luck.

Chinese Superstitions

Chinese are also a group of very superstitious people. They have a set of their own beliefs which has become part of the Chinese culture and are accepted widely. Some of the common Chinese superstitions include:

- keep distance from females if you are a man
- do not count money when gambling
- do not put your hands on a gambler's shoulder when he is playing
- females have more chances of winning during their monthly cycle
- numbers such as 4 and 14 are considered bad and you must not check into hotels with these numbers
- do not use the main entrance of the casino
- before going to a casino, turn on all the lights in the house
- the number 8 is considered to be lucky for the Chinese and the number 58 is considered to bring bad luck
