I'm a vegetarian now because I saw "the big picture" put together in a video last year, I finally understood the connection between cholesterol, saturated fat and how it clogs arteries; which is the major cause of heart disease. In fact, most diseases can be traced to poor circulation.
When I understood the artery-clogging dangers inherent in an animal-based diet, realized what the meat industry injects into the animals to make them fatter and control disease, saw the abuse the animals themselves endured before they were butchered, I "reasoned" it out and stopped consuming meat the very next day. With factual information and a clear understanding of the consequences to my body, I was willing and able to make up my mind and choose a path for me.
I wondered if people could quit smoking in the same way. Perhaps if they really understood the mental game playing that goes on within their own minds; the tobacco industry's practice of increasing physical addiction by adding up to 400 ingredients in cigarettes; If they understood the fact that methods exist for changing human behavior, they could throw away the cigarettes and never again want to light one up. If there were techniques to create a pathway towards smoking cessation using tried and true techniques employed by other professionals in human persuasion COULD THEY BE USED TO STOP SMOKING? Sounded like a good idea, so I did some research.
One of the techniques used in changing human behavior is to make a promissory note to you self. How about writing up a contract to quit smoking? Make it bold! Make it a commitment. "If it's not in writing, it isn't real," says Donald Trump. Success and motivational instructors tell us to make a contract for success with ourselves if we want to stay focused. Religious people make a "Contract with God" as a promise to be Holy and True. Diet blogs suggest making a contract with your self to reduce your weight in a certain time frame. There are many self-help websites that demonstrate how to create a contract for setting and achieving wellness and productivity goals. There is even a website for writers writing personal contracts for writers who struggle to get started writing. Start by making the commitment to your self to stop smoking. Like any good promissory note you should have rewards that promote success.
Another technique for mental strengthening is meditation. Many people employ meditation to elevate their consciousness or change the way they live their lives. Religious chanting creates uplifting vibrations in the mind to broaden ones relationship with other human beings and/or the creator. You could take this time proven method of meditation, apply it to uplifting your self-respect and feeling worthy of good health, happiness and a longer life. Meditate on clean, fresh air filling your lungs instead of smoke. Try meditating on pink lungs instead of black ones. Use the powerful technique of visualization to picture your self in a field of flowers on a sunny day enjoying that wonderful smell.
And further, regarding the Positive Thinking and Affirmations techniques, all the super success and self-help authors say the same thing; repeat over and over to your self, positive affirmations. I crush out those cigarettes- I deserve a healthy life- I think well of myself- I want to live longer- I want pink lungs instead of black ones- I want a clean heart instead of a congested one, and so on. Through constructive repetition and affirming what goals you want to achieve, you can take proven methods of positive growth and self- improvement techniques, apply them to smoking cessation, change your behavior and generate new practices which are void of tobacco dependency. Affirm to yourself that you can quit; you can breath fresh air again. Stop smoking!
So read all the information that is available on the stop-smoking sites to help you quit smoking and maybe try the above tips too. Find out what chemicals are added to the tobacco to enhance it. Finding the reasons we smoke and the techniques to evolve out of self-destructive behavior and stop smoking permanently is the only true course there is.
You know what? This method really worked for me. After 45 years of smoking I finally stopped. I was never successful at quitting before... until I put these techniques to use.
Good Luck!
