If you are ever caught in the rain, then you should know the rules for driving in inclement weather. For instance, if it is raining outside, the first thing that you should do as soon as you turn your windshield wipers on is to turn your headlights on as well. Not only does putting your headlights on help to illuminate the path in front of you, but it also helps to make you more visible to other people who may not be able to see you as well as you would think.

Always make sure that you leave a safe distance in between you and the other drivers around you. Too often, people are sloppy when they drive, never taking care to stay at least two to three car lengths behind the person in front of them. It is for this reason that people are often the victims of their own misfortune. For some people, forgetting to put their lights on when it is raining outside is more common because many towns are now so well lit that it isn't unusual to see people driving around with their lights off. However, if you happen to be driving and you see someone with their lights off, flicking your brights at them is usually an indicator to them that they should turn their lights on.

It is dangerous to have your lights off because if you are driving outside when it is raining and then you try to switch lanes but cannot see the person behind you because they do not have their headlights on, suddenly you are putting yourself in a precarious situation where an accident is almost inevitable.
