Can Snoring Be Cured Using "Natural" Methods?

Nothing is truer than the saying that you have arrived half way to the solution if you know the root of the problem, when it concerns finding cures for snoring. Snoring is one disorder that not only disturbs the life of the sufferer but also the lives of others who live with the patient. While there are countless drug remedies for curing snoring, there are equally effective 'natural remedies' which can bring significant relief from snoring.

Other than maintaining an ideal body weight, snoring is also caused by smoking and alcohol consumption. While drinking relaxes the throat muscle uncontrollably, smoking causes some cellular changes within the esophagus. Both these factors ultimately block normal flow of air through the air passages causing you to snore. Therefore if you quit smoking and drink in moderation, if not completely give it up as a poor lifestyle choice, you might get relief from snoring in the most 'natural' way.

The last but never the least important natural method of getting relief from snoring is changing your sleeping posture. In fact, one of the oldest home remedies for snore cure was tying tennis balls on pajama tops which prevented the sleeper from sleeping on his back. The reason for this is that sleeping on your back causes you to snore as your tongue and the jaw usually tend to drop back. Therefore once you change your sleeping posture and sleep on your side, your throat, jaw and tongue are better aligned to allow smooth flow of air. This reduces snoring.

Sleeping sideways also prevent the relaxed muscles of the throat from collapsing and blocking the airways. It is also a fact that people who sleep on their stomachs are less likely to snore since this posture is able to diminish the pressure on the airways.

Another natural remedy that can bring relief from snoring is to elevate your bed to about 30 degrees as this height is known to reduce the chances of tissues collapsing within the throat.
