In the early days home staging was more for the rich people with large houses. The house needed to be more than just big to sell and so slowly an entire industry developed. Prices came down and today you can find home staging companies working on all house price levels. This trend has made home staging a valid option for everyone selling a house. In a buyer's market like it is these days home staging is almost a necessity to close a deal fast.
Home staging is not just cleaning a house to make it look nice. It goes much further. You are selling a house with 4 bedrooms? Well, then make them look like bedrooms and not like one room would be your storage area. The potential buyer needs to walk into a house and be able to imagine the future usage of each room. Some people even go so far that they stage the room and turn it upside down from what it was before. I have seen people stage a kids room even though they do not have any kids them self. However, their house was perfect for a family of 4 and that's who they decided they want to target.
House staging also includes to remove clutter and unnecessary furniture. A house loaded with stuff looks smaller compared to one that has only a smaller number of furniture pieces. The larger a home feels like, the better it will sell. Staging a home includes re-arranging furniture to make a room look more comfortable. Sometimes house staging goes even further - repainting rooms or even replacing carpet and other big ticket items. The more expensive your home is, the more you might have to do when staging it for a quick sell.
So, to answer the initial question: Can house staging close the deal faster when selling a house? It definitely can. It is an affordable way to increase the showing value of your house and the more showings you have, the better your chances of selling the house quickly and to move into your next dream home. Just put on your buyer's hat, visit a few open houses to see what other home sellers are doing to advertise their house.
Talk to your real estate agent and then work things from there. The real estate agents usually have a lot of experience and can tell you right away a few things to work on. You pay for their services, so make sure you get most out of it.
