Can Drinking Coffee Make You Lose Weight?

Most people love drinking coffee! They love the taste and love the jolt of energy it gives. But has it helped you lose weight? Well, I think it might have, but this is based on special circumstances. I used to drink two lattes a day. Now, these lattes were generally made with 2% milk, not whole milk.

And I didn't usually drink the whole thing. Nonetheless, I don't think they did much to kill my appetite. I mean, I know caffeine is supposed to be an appetite suppressor, but it didn't seem to be one for me. One of the main reasons I could drink these lattes is because I own an espresso maker.

Also, I usually drank these lattes accompanied by either a meal (breakfast) or an afternoon snack. Since I have a sweet tooth, the snack was generally of the dessert variety rather than a piece of fruit or something more healthy. Cut to right now. I'm temporarily living abroad, i.e., away from the U.S. We don't have access to an espresso maker and two daily lattes from a cafe are out of our budget.

So, I make do with a regular coffeemaker. Instead of milk, we now use nondairy creamer. Well, the funny thing is, coffee is now suppressing my appetite! It takes longer for me to get hungry after having a cup of coffee. I also get a stronger coffee jolt.

I may have even lost a little weight! This is by no means scientific, but it looks like caffeine without milk is the way to go if you want to lose weight. Its definitely made me rethink my two lattes a day habit. When we return to the U.S., I am thinking of cutting back to one latte. I doubt I can give up lattes altogether, though if I wanted to shed a few more pounds, I might seriously consider it. Or I could try switching to non-fat milk and see what happens. I'm just wondering if milk, rather than filling me up, makes me hungry or gives me less energy than if I had coffee alone.
