Buying the Best GPS For the Money - Expert Tips on Finding the Best GPS

Expert Author Stephen M Reed

In terms of the best GPS for the money, the Garmin Nuvi portable GPS navigation device has got to be the one that provides the best value, and there are several features and benefits which all lead to this conclusion.

I will take the opportunity to give those reasons, but ultimately, the final choice is yours to make.

First, the screen which sits on top of the dash is a four and one-third inch wide display, with anti-theft features built in. The screen is a turn and tilt affair, which is easily positioned and adjusted to suit the sitting position of the driver, whether a seven foot giant, or a three foot tall midget.

The screen is detachable and can be taken 'walkabout,' making finding ones' way round an unfamiliar town or city on foot a piece of cake.

If you are in the car, and using a Garmin Nuvi portable GPS navigator, then the 255W features faster satellite lock times, because of its 'predictive technology' and with the newly designed screen, more information and detailed terrain maps give a much clearer and smoother moving image on the screen. Other than that there is also the new photo navigation feature.

The new Garmin 3790T has to be considered one of the best GPS units. Recently launched, it is feature packed and can be easily used as an in vehicle or pedestrian unit. Well worth the rather hefty $400+ price tag.

With the new, larger screen, up to seventy percent more of the road around the vehicle is projected and turn by turn spoken directions with the actual street names spoken out. There is also a screen lock feature, so that you can lock the screen out, thereby avoiding those accidental touches of the screen when adjusting the position when driving, and taking you out of the route map you are currently navigating.

There is also an automatic time zone transition adjustment so if you are traveling from Eastern Standard Time and moving west, it matters not how far you travel, the time will always be correct.

The Nuvi portable GPS navigator gives real-time traffic updates, and the rechargeable lithium ion batteries give up to four hours continuous use when not in the charger unit in the vehicle, combined with the faster 333 MHz processor makes this probably the best GPS navigation unit on the market today. A great contender for the best gps for the money.

Regular North America maps for the United States and Canada are preloaded, with Navteq data of North America, Hawaii and Puerto Rico and include including six and a half million searchable points of interest.

Whatever the need you have for a GPS navigation device, a Garmin Nuvi is the best value and is the market leader for that reason. The only thing it cannot do is drive the car for you, but maybe when the next version of this popular portable GPS device hits the street, who knows...

Garmin offers the ultimate answers to your GPS woes with the Nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator and the Garmin nüvi 265W/265WT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic Updates which makes for quite the driving companion.

If you'd like to buy something from another manufacturer, then the TomTom XXL 540TM (Lifetime Traffic & Maps Edition) 5-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator is quite reasonably prices as well. Still need a reason to buy one of these? The fact that these products top Amazon's best selling list good enough?
