Grilling and barbecuing has been around as far back as the start of the human race. Cooking over an open fire was a practice utilized by cavemen as a way to cook food. Families have adopted barbecuing as a standard American tradition. Clearly the flavor you get from barbecuing is unmatched by any other way of cooking. In addition, barbecuing gives people a reason to gather outdoors. About 90% of all people attend or hold a barbecue at least once a year. Out of all the barbecues, about 70% of the people use a gas grill.
The way that a gas grill works is by a spark, which ignites the gas inside of the grill. Usually either you push or turn a button or knob, which works to set off the small hammer inside that hits an ignition crystal. The gas is mixed with oxygen and spreads across the cooking surface. Gas grills are the easiest and fastest out of all the grills to use.
You will find, gas grills come in a variety of sizes and shapes. This makes them ideal for any type of barbecuing. Additionally, smaller grills work great for cooking away from home. For larger amounts of food, the bigger gas grills are efficient and have less of a mess in comparison to other grills.
There are several things to consider when purchasing your first gas grill:
The Weight of the Grill
You can find a gas grill in all sizes and shapes. The size you pick should depend on what you plan to use it for. For those wanting portability, choose a smaller gas grill. Gas grills on the smaller end of the scale, weigh anywhere from 10 to 40 pounds and have the option for portable gas containers. If you plan only to use it at home, then you may want to consider a larger grill.
Type of Cooking Surface
Unlike other grills, gas grills have the option of various cooking surfaces. The different types include ribbed, flat, and BBQ grill surfaces. Some even come with the option of a non-stick surface, which allows the cooking of more foods than other types of grills. This way you can cook a whole meal, along with side dishes all in the same place. Other options may include a Wok for cooking pasta and rice, or rotisserie for chicken.
Amount of Surface Area
Determine the amount of surface area you foresee yourself needing. All of this depends on the amount of food that you plan to cook on it and the number of people you will be cooking for. Cooking for two requires a surface area much smaller than if you plan on cooking for many. Smaller grills are easier to clean.
The Cost
You will find gas grills typically are more expensive due to mechanical parts inside. Smaller grills usually start around $50 and larger ones around $400 or more. Take into consideration that you need to also purchase the gas for the grill. Propane easily can be purchased from anyone of your local stores.
