But How Important Is Attitude?

Expert Author Anya M Dee

Have you ever heard that "Attitude is everything"? This is a saying that has taken over a lot of the business market due to people wanting to find that competitive edge they need for growth. Let's face it, the world of business is highly competitive. There isn't always a lot of difference between two products or services. Don't believe me? Pick a service...let's say "spa treatments." You have been working hard and deserve it, right? Put those two words into Google and you are going to get well over 30-million returns. I'm in Chicago so I got Peninsula Salon and Heal-n-cure Salon come up first. What is the difference between the two? Both are higher-end salons in the downtown Chicago area. Both offer similar services and both have about the same cost. So how to the individual owners get an edge when it comes to running their businesses? One great way is to infuse their business with a specifically positive attitude.

It is no secret that the human brain is under-utilized. Scientists have known for decades that the human brain most likely has capabilities well beyond what we understand thus far. The common belief is that we only use 10% of our brains, but newer research is showing that this isn't really true. No one knows exactly how much of our brains we use but we do know that the brain is made up of about three-percent of the body's total weight and it uses about twenty-percent of the body's total energy. That means that it likely is a high-powered mechanism that works to direct everything we do from breathing to skiing and eating to dancing. With this kind of power, it is highly unlikely that we are only using ten- percent. In fact, the "ten-percent theory" is thought to be a complete inaccuracy nowadays.

Since the human brain is so important, what your attitude naturally is going to influence the way you do business. The way you do business is going to influence the outcome you have. If you knew that you could have bigger returns if you used your mind power, wouldn't you at least try it? This is how most business owners think so when they hear about "attitude" they are ready to jump!

If you need more proof about how attitude shapes everything, here is an example. Let's say two women go to the same mall on a Saturday afternoon to buy a sweater. The first person Jackie has been rushed all morning. She knows that when she gets to the mall she is going to have to fight for parking with rude customers, she likely is going to have problems finding her purchase in the right size/color/style. "And the crowding!" she thinks. "I am going to have to fight through the people all morning!" What happens to her? Likely everything she thought about! On the other hand, let's say Melissa goes to the same mall at the same time. She comes with a different attitude though- she believes that its her "day off" and things are going to go leisurely and smoothly. Guess what happens for her? It goes leisurely and smoothly! How is this possible though? The two women were at the mall at the same time. They were from the same demographic. They were even searching for the same thing! Of course the difference is their attitude towards reaching their goals. If attitude can change the experience, why wouldn't business owners utilize it? The question though is HOW do you "get positive"?

The way to change your attitude is to consciously and subconsciously decide to focus on the good. Consciously this is easier- this is where you employ things like vision boards, visualizing, meditating, EFT, etc. You DO something to help your conscious mind to focus on what you want. You also have to address the subconscious mind though. This is where you use things like tapes left on while you sleep, motivational programs working in the background of your computer, incantations and hypnosis. You want to tap into your "secret" mind (that formerly-known-as ninety-percent) and get it on board with the rest of your brain. By combining the two, you are creating the optimal situation to work with. You want to keep on learning how to blend the two for maximum results. It is difficult sometimes though-depending on what negative attitudes you have embedded in your brain-but focus and determination can win out with this battle too!
