You are implementing SEO (search engine optimization) to get highly targeted traffic to your business opportunity. Most everything you read and anyone you have talked to have told you that you need backlinks to achieve higher search engine ranking pages (SERPs).
With that in mind, most people do specifically focus on backlinks. And you know what?
You should to a point!
Is that all there is to doing SEO?
Why would you not focus on getting other kinds of links?
Let us take a look at the big picture.
The "other" kinds of links that are obtainable are outbound links and reciprocal links. Outbound links are when you link to other peoples' web sites from yours. Reciprocal links are when you and the end web site are exchanging links with each other.
Now...Why would you not look into creating outbound and reciprocal links?
You should!
If you only have links coming towards your web site with no other types of links, search engines like Google frown on that. You will have a much more difficult time getting to the top of the SERPs.
Imagine this...
You own a home. This home has nothing but one way streets pointing to it. You pull your car out of the garage and there is no way to drive off and leave unless you are going down a one way street. You are thus breaking the law and risk getting involved in an accident.
Who would live in a house that has that kind of scenario?
Look at the internet in this way. If you have nothing but links coming "to" your site, it looks like a big freaking island to search engines and you do get penalized for it.
The answer...
Do a little bit of everything when it comes to linking! You do not have to do too much in the way of outbound or reciprocal links. You just have to do it. You are in some small way looking at ratios.
Here is a tip.
Whenever you are looking at outbound and reciprocal links, do your research and only link to reputable web sites. These should be web sites that have a fairly high PageRank and are on target (related keywords) with the niche you are involved with.
Do this right and you will get ranked much higher faster. You will get highly targeted traffic to your business opportunity much quicker than if you rely on backlinking alone.
