What I did was put one copy of each online and tested them to see which one worked best for my opt in list building. You can do the same thing.

Here are 5 tips when deciding on text or html

Tip 1: Consider your audience. Who is your target customer? Perhaps they like flash or prefer simple text. Do they surf the high graphic sites or do they read a lot of white papers. Consider what the user might be responsive to when building lists.

Tip 2: Never assume one way or the other. Even though you think you know what your user might respond to, it is important to test by putting up more than one squeeze page and see which one will build a list the quickest.

Tip 3: Change one thing at a time. this is where split testing gets tricky. If you change more than one thing at a time on your instant capture page you will never know which change gave you the different result. Bottom line is, change just one thing at a time on your squeeze page and you will have more success with list building.

Tip 4: Try a text banner header, that looks like a graphic. It is easy with most editors and definitely blogs to make your header all text based. Try this, and test it against an image header. Just another way to build a list.

tip 5: Don't be afraid to start over list building. Sometimes things just don't work out. Conversion rates of below 5% are poor for squeeze pages collecting an opt in email. If you can't get it to work, start over from scratch. It will often save you time versus trying to fix a broken instant capture page.
