Relationships are always a two-way street. They always must have respect and trust as a cornerstone. It is often easy to get into a relationship but maintaining it is another thing entirely. Adjustments and adapting are just part of the routine when you make the choice to really commit to another person.
Many times people forget to realize that they must be willing to accept the differences between themselves and their partner. Each person has strengths and weaknesses, so no one can withstand the scrutiny of a partner who expects perfection. Each person must be willing to adjust and accept their partner, flaws and all, within reason.
In a relationship, each one has to exert his or her best effort before even considering giving up on love. If the relationship has made it through any challenges in the past, these can be looked to for strength as you press on. In this way, partners can learn to grow and become better friends to each other while learning from mistakes they may have made. The key here is to continue growing and not to hold grudges that serve no purpose. Assuming both partners are committed, there is no place for such nonsense in a relationship based on love and understanding. If this minimum amount of maturity and understanding does not exist within the relationship, it may be time to move on or to take a look at where the relationship is headed.
In getting into a relationship, you have to consider that you are not just thinking of yourself anymore. Each partner must realize that they are part of a relationship and that relationships take work. They can be fun and filled with excitement, but for them to succeed, they must have a solid base and people committed to making them work.
