One of the most frequently asked questions I receive from new web entrepreneurs is that they want desperately want to know how to build their lists. How can they create that coveted list of customers and clients which every business owner desires - in order to increase their chances of profitability. Isn't it a numbers game?
So with that on the brain - what do many business owners do? Well, you tend to search for every way you can possibly increase visibility for yourself on the web so that others can find you. You are writing articles. Speaking. Blogging. Creating joint ventures. Telling everyone you know by word of mouth.
The question is - is that once you have created that rush of new blood to your website, are they dropping by for the usual 60 seconds and leaving having done nothing or have they given you their name and email address to be placed on your list?
If you have been fretting or worse agonizing over why you are having trouble converting your website visitors into newsletter subscribers or members of your list, it may be because you are missing an essential element - a "good" squeeze page.
A squeeze page is a web page that only does one thing - which is capture the names and email addresses of potential clients and customers. People who want to learn or hear more from you. There is no extra stuff on this page. No about us, contact, or affiliate link pages:) Just some compelling copy, a form to capture the name and email address of the visitor, and an incentive to do so.
Any online business should be using article marketing to attract new traffic and establish visibility in their marketplace, so that is why I like to create several squeeze pages for all types of niches. The "basics" of my squeeze page never change and work for all markets. The only thing that may change are the headlines so that each squeeze page "speaks" to the prospect I am targeting.
Let's cover the steps...
Step 1
In an HTML editor, and on only one page, create a buzz-filled headline, along with sub-headlines and copy that quickly but strongly provide an incentive for the visitor to join your list.
Step 2
Create an opt-in box which will allow visitors to get on your list. This box will go directly under your subheadline or copy and can simply ask for the visitor's primary email address and their first name. This is enough information to ask for which will not scare the visitor away AND is enough to personalize any future emails.
Most autoresponder/newsletter services will have a way for you to create this opt-in box using basic HTML prominently displayed.
Step 3
Remember the only purpose of your squeeze page is to help you get laser-focused and build your list quickly, so you have to drive traffic to the squeeze page. Promote the URL for the page in your email signatures, article resource boxes, forum signatures, blog comments, and on social networking sites.
*Bonus Step - Other things you can add to your squeeze page to improve conversion would be audio, video, testimonials, and continued tweaking of your headlines. Just don't overdo it. The key is to keep it very simple.
Another thing you can do is to study other squeeze pages that you like, look at the pages of your competition, and if you need to -- get some inexpensive help creating your squeeze pages with minimal work on your part. Hire a tech person for about an hour or an hour and a half from freelancing websites, or use your virtual assistant to get your squeeze page up.
Remember - your squeeze page is one of the MOST important pages you will ever create for your business. it's a virtually no-cost way to start seeing dramatic improvements in your conversion rates. Get yours done today!
