Build Your Business Online: Strategies and Tips

Your email marketing list is part of the model for building your business online. And, it will require creative thinking and generosity. One way is to offer a bonus for signing up on your list. This is in addition to your Free Experience offer.

Sometimes your audience will need a bit more enticement to give up their information and allow you to contact them through their emails. I learned this tip from many experts:

-- To improve your chance of getting people to sign up for your list, offer them something of added value as a bonus. It can be something of yours or something by someone else that's of high quality and can be of benefit to your target audience.

  • You'll be sharing some really great resources. It could be a couple of your favorite videos, or online resources that you have used and find work really well.

You might also want to consider giving away something that will upsell to one of your other offerings. For example, give an 'incentive' discount coupon towards one of your products or services. This can be put on your 'thank you' page with a link to your sales page, or where you want them to go and check out your Free Experience offering.

Once you have them interested in what you have to offer, start asking them questions. Simple, open-ended questions, like "What's your biggest challenge with building your business online?" or "What's the one thing you'd like to learn more about that relates to balancing your work and family life?"

Asking these questions on forums/discussion groups and blogs that are in your target market with a link back to your Free Experience offer page (opt-in page) works nicely. Your target audience that is interested in responding will likely also sign up for your list.

Another strategy to make sure your audience has the option to join your list, is to put a 'PS' box on all of your sales pages leading to your Free Experience offering page.

  • We know that most visitors of your sales pages won't buy on the first pass, so you want to make sure you give them the chance to join your list.

  • You could add valuable bonuses to someone else's product offering.

Make an offer of a bonus to your colleagues for their products and programs. When you give a bonus for someone else's offering, you're putting yourself in front of other people's traffic. You do less work, but may get more subscribers for your own list.
