Bressler Vineyards

Bressler Vineyards

Located in the small, historic town of St. Helena (yes, part of Napa Valley) Bressler like many of its neighbors is a small lot, premium producer of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Bressler was started as many wineries do in Napa, with the retirement of an executive from nearby Silicon Valley. Bob Bressler spent his career at Sun Microsystems where he was a visiting scientist and advised the Sun executive team. Bob's wife Stacey is also intimately involved with the day to day operations of the winery and comes to the wine business after her own successful career in the Bay Area high tech market, although her focus was more marketing than it was the technology itself.

Of course, with an ownership group without winemaking experience it becomes even more essential to find a hands on winemaker with the ability to turn the naturally amazing fruit being grown, into truly age worth Cabernet Sauvignon. Mia Klein has been the answer for Bressler Vineyards and a few other small local producers. Interestingly, Mia also makes a nice range of wines under her own label Selene.

With prices for standard sized bottles of Bressler Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon starting at around $85, this is far from an everyday wine and most vintages do certainly benefit from some time in the cellar, but in many ways this winery is making some of the best of what California has to offer. It also offers a nice change of pace from the huge wine palaces being created in Napa presently. Small, family owned and absolutely exceptional quality. I'd highly suggest spending an hour tasting with Bressler instead of another of the large wineries directly along highway 29, it will be more intimate along with better wine which is generally what people are looking for in their wine country experience.
