Breath Halitosis - Things to Avoid to Prevent It

Let's face it. More than half, if not all of the people living in this world has undergone through the awful experience of developing breath halitosis even just once in their lives. From children, to teenagers, to adults and to the aged, breath halitosis picks no age, and even you, me, or your friends might get affected from it.

There are lots and lots of ways and explanations in regards to bad breath or halitosis, but, there has never been a proven and effective way to prevent it all throughout ones life, or to cut things short, there has never been a miracle cure for this kind of so-called "illness".

However, there are many ways in order to reduce the chances of developing breath halitosis, from brushing your teeth, cheek and tongue regularly, as well as flossing it, regular check-ups with the dentist, and lastly, avoiding certain types of food and habits, and this article will focus on just that.

In order to prevent or lessen the chances of one developing bad breath, it is important to remember that bad breath can be a result of the food that we eat, if it is clean or not, and basically, its type of food can affect how it has an overall impact on the overall scent of our mouth. For example, onions and garlic are two of the most notorious types of food out there that are known for their ability to make our breath smell gross and awful.

But, these two are not the only culprits out there. Coffee, for one thing, is also responsible for making our breath smell bad. This is because, when we drink coffee, it coats our tongue with a black pigment and prevents oxygen from getting to it. Hence, it becomes a dry place, which is considered to be the ideal breeding grounds of oral bacteria.

Sweets, such as chocolates, candies and other sugar stuff are also one of the most common culprits for halitosis, and not only that, they are also responsible for causing numerous dental problems. This is because of their sugar content, and even though sugar somehow stimulates and speeds up the production of saliva, it helps make our mouth the perfect and ideal place in which oral bacteria can thrive in. Not only that, indulging too much in these sweet and sugary stuff can also cause tonsillitis or tonsil stones, which may in turn cause you to develop halitosis or bad breath.

Other things that should also be noted that may cause breath halitosis are alcohol and liquors, which dries up our mouth and also, smoking, which also has the same effect and gives our mouth a very undesirable odor from its smoke.
