Bratty Behavior - The Positive Way in Managing a Child's Rude Actions

What actions and behavior you see in your child during her younger years would give you a hint on what kind of grown up your offspring would be. This means that if you often observe him acting badly and not appropriate for his or her especially when in front of others, there is something wrong and you have to do something about this. However, it is important that you do not over react and over-interpret some actions as bad without carefully evaluating the situation and the age of your child. For example, a toddler pushing a fellow toddler in order to grab a toy is normal for their age and should not be considered as a form of bullying. There is a big difference between a normal childhood behavior from going overboard, which in a way can be referred to as a bratty behavior. And this is something that every parent should learn to differentiate. In the event that the behavior falls into the category of being a brat, it is important as well for parents to learn how to deal with it proactively.

Every parent should understand that bad manners are one of the typical characters that would suggest that your offspring is a spoiled child. A child who keeps on interrupting you when you are talking to someone or interrupting others who are talking can be considered a brat. In the same way, it is not a proper attitude to oftentimes forget about using polite words to show respect like please and thank you. In case your child shows some kind of rude attitude especially in front of many people, you need to know how to deal with this effectively. You have to realize that simply telling him to stop would not even affect him. There is a great chance that he or she will ignore you, which can piss you off and drive you to be a little harder on the child. However, this is not the right approach that you should carry out.

Instead of yelling at your child to stop, it would be better if you take him a little bit far from the public and eyes of others. Tell him in a nice way that acting nice and saying nice words would make people feel good about their actions. This would motivate your child being the attention-needy that he is to act right so as to get the appreciation of others.

As a parent, you need to be aware that the best method to handle a bratty behavior that your child is showing up is to establish a clear communication with him. You must keep in mind that simply saying no or stop is not enough; you have to explain to your child the reason why it is not allowed for him to act like that. It is also important that you explain to your child the possible consequences that may come along when he continue to do that wrong action. You have to be more precise with your explanations and you need to be firm about this.

Stopping a bratty behavior by threatening your child with impractical coercion and pressure is absolutely inappropriate. Instead of following you, your child would simply ignore you. Hard spanking is a big No as well because it would only make your child feel abused and might push him to develop a negative view about himself and you as a parent. No parent would want their child to be aloof and distant to them. To prevent this from happening, you need to be more proactive and affectionate with dealing with your child's bratty behavior.
