Bonus Building Care Franchise Review - A Low Cost Franchise Opportunity

Expert Author Greg Preite

Bonus Building Care was founded in 1996 by Arleen Cavanaugh. Arleen and her former husband, Jim Cavanaugh, started the commercial cleaning franchise Jani-King back in 1969, so when the couple divorced in the mid-90's, Ms. Cavanaugh took her extensive experience in the industry and started the Bonus Building Care franchise. Jim Cavanaugh currently maintains control of Jani-King while Arleen runs the day-to-day operations of her new company.

Bonus Building Care franchises serve commercial clients throughout the United States offering carpet steam cleaning, construction clean up, warehouse cleaning, floor stripping, and a number of other niche services. They do not have any international franchise units but are looking to expand internationally. By 2009, there were nearly 2,500 franchisees in the US. They do offer exclusive territories for their franchise owners and they also offer a unique twist by promoting a Hispanic version of their web site and targeting potential Hispanic franchise owners.

The cost of establishing a new Bonus Building Care franchise is very reasonable compared to other franchise opportunities. There is a franchise fee of $7,500 and an ongoing royalty fee of 10%. Total start up costs are estimated at $9,000-$41,900 depending on location and territory. The parent company even offers a financing program for the franchise fee and necessary equipment. One to five employees are needed to operate the franchise and absentee ownerism is not allowed. Bonus Building Care can also be a home based franchise, allowing the franchisee to save on the cost of leasing office space.

Training and support is available as needed at both the company headquarters and at the franchisee's location. There does not appear to be a mandatory training course. There is also no minimum net worth requirement or cash liquidity requirement for prospective new owners. Prior experience is not required.

Bonus Building Care has made it very simple to become a franchise owner as one really does not need experience of much money to get started. However, all that glitters is not gold. As a franchisee, you are responsible for obtaining new business and accounts. This will require sales and marketing skills as well as persistence and consistency. With a lack of experience and a lack of business capital, it could be VERY difficult to achieve any level of success or profitability. If you are looking to develop a legitimate business from home on a budget of under $20,000, then I do believe that there are other avenues that should be explored- especially if you lack significant marketing experience.
