Blogs, blogs and more blogs! The web space is full of it. Be a professional, or a housewife or a student, everyone wants to jot down their thoughts, ideas, joys and woes in their blogs. For some individuals it is another medium to stay connected with the ones that matter, family members and friends, while for others it is the most suitable platform to show their writing skills.
There must be a purpose for someone to be present in the blog space. Starting off is easy but maintaining and improving a good readership stats needs quite a bit of planning. All that is required is the bloggers understanding of his/her readers and keep the contents alive and appealing.
Here are some things you need.
Choose your subject matter and URL very carefully. An interesting topic with a simple URL will ensure that readers keep on craving for more and also share your blog link fruitfully. With someone as popular as Barrack Obama, for instance, it's easy to trace his blog. If you are writing on technology try URLs like 'techguru' or 'hotgadgets'.
Apply a design that is soft on the eye and that goes with your blog topic. The design includes the background themes, color, fonts and its size, and link colors. A good suggestion would be texts in black or grey on a white background. For the borders and links use other subtle colors.
Try to provide something fresh and new for your readers. Any search engine provides a whole lot of information so the readers should have a good reason to turn to your blog. Write what you feel as two people would never feel alike and yours may sound more interesting.
Update your blog at least once a week. The blogs that don't show any activity for some months are deemed 'dead'.
These are the tools to notify your readers about your updates. RSS will help you readers to know when you do an update so that they would not miss anything interesting. Also try sending e-mails or newsletters to your readers about the updates.
Comments and reply are a method to interact with the reader and thank or solve their appreciation or questions, whatever it may be. Your readers will feel important this way and you will be able to maintain a good relation.
Search engines choose and promote blogs that are popular. This will depend on the number of hits you get, the popularity of the blogger and the quality of the content.
Counters provide information about the number of visits. Initially it should be kept invisible but as the number gets dearer you can as well share it with the readers. Counters correspond to the popularity of the blog. But if visits are less you might not feel of showing it to the viewer. It will have a negative impact on their mindset.
If one of the purposes for your blog writing is money making choose the topics that people always seek information about. It can be travel related, technology related, real estate or online promotions. Having more hits bring in advertisers. Counters too work towards it. The AdSense integration by Google can make you some money.
