How do you set up a blog on WordPress.com?
You can either have WordPress.com host your blog. This means you can use one of their addresses, for example, MyBlog.WordPress.com. Or host it yourself on your own domain i.e. MyBlog.com.
If you want WordPress.com to host your blog simply go to WordPress.com and click the "sign up" button and follow the prompts. It really is this easy to set up a WordPress blog.
How do you host the domain yourself?
You can also host your blog yourself on your own domain which is highly recommended because you have more options to modify it and when your domain starts getting popular you actually own the blog's address.
The installation procedure differs depending on the hosting company you are with. But let me show you how you can install WordPress on your own domain using a well known control panel used by many hosting companies which is called cpanel.
Log into your cpanel account, go to the "Software/Services" sections towards the bottom. Click on the "Fantastico De Luxe" section, click the "WordPress" link on the left. Click "new installation", select your domain near "install on domain".
Leave "install in directory" blank, fill in the admin section with the login details you want to use to access the admin area of your blog. In "base configuration" you can use just "admin" for the admin nickname, just fill out the rest of the details to your preference.
Finally, click "Install WordPress" and you have WordPress installed on your own domain name, hosted in your own web hosting account. And it took just 5 minutes.
You will also see a link to access the admin area of your blog, bookmark this in your internet browser. You can then login to the admin area of your blog at any time to add content. In case you misplace the link to the admin area, it is in this format: MyBlog.com/ wp-login.php.
